I've used simdock (in AUR) and it looks similar to ksmoothdock. Alot of folks seem to like trayer and stalonetray for a system tray

I like pypanel a lot. You can customize it to your likings. Has a small memory footprint too.

+1 for pypanel, I am liking it a lot for my THINKPAD.

I've recently gone back to pypanel. It's a great panel and if you like bling bling, you can always set the transparency to max and make a background to the panel in the wallpaper
The only thing I miss is support for internet time. Since I don't know any python, I can't fix that issue myself. But as they say, it's never to late to start learning

ive just installed pypanel, looks quite nice so far. im going to have a little play with the config, but it doesnt seem to have parabolic zooming which ive always liked!

bmpanel is also good if you like simplicity with minimal fuss, otherwise +1 for pypanel (super configurable)

pypanel didnt do it, thanks for the recomendation though! ive configured the standard fluxbox toolbar to have my systemm tray that autohides, and then my app launcher, tasklist and clock are on ksmoothdock.
im still looking for a replacement to ksmoothdock though! i just want ksmoothdock without the kde dependencies!

I use Avant Window Navigator. Works really well. No parabolic zoom though. Kiba Dock does though. Not too well I don't think.

kiba dock has far to many gnome dependencies! im probably going to stick with ksmoothdock for now, untill i find something better.
thanks

you can compile Avant Window manager without all the gnome dependencies.
I think its caled agnostic form.
In the AUR I only found the gnome version, wich of course is bloated with gnome dependencies.

im not the best with compiling, how does agnostic form work? will awm still work properly if i dont satisfy the dependencies before compiling?? were would i get the source from and wot do i need to do with it? just compile it like normal and ignore the dependencies??

I would download the PKGBUILD from AUR and modify it. You'll find excellent tutorials
about the Arch build system in the Wiki.
Also you need to go to the AWN Site https://launchpad.net/awn and look for
the correct parameters like "--without-gconf" and "--with-desktop=agnostic".
Before I forget, AWN needs a compositing manager (like compiz, xcompmgr, xfwm).
