Hi, everybody,
I've got a couple of months of a very satisfactory experience with the Arch and no experience with Toshiba laptops. The Arch acquitted itself well, just minor details to be taken care of. There is a lot of information in Wiki on Toshiba laptops, but nothing about the L40 family. I understand that the correct solution depends on what family/generation the particular laptop belongs to. I am not hardware savvy, so I can't figure out what particular solution, if any, I have to use. Any suggestions?

I use acpi to set brightness with the special keys on my notebook. See my /etc/acpi/handler.sh here (contains lots of other stuff too). The wiki offers some info about acpi.

Do you mean Toshiba Satellite L40? ThinkPad is another cup of tea (?). Wiki contains a lot of information indeed; it says different Toshiba laptops require different solutions. So far I don't know where to place mine.

I don't know about Toshiba, but I would at least give acpi a try with the toshiba_acpi module.

toshiba_acpi seems to be long obsolete:

I discovered that because modprobe toshiba_acpi won't work
Brightness control's probably been working from the beginning (FN + F6/F7)
The range of brightness, by the way, is 0 - 47 %. Is it OK (visually it's reasonable) ?

Sorry, didn't know about that.

Mine goes from 20 to 100. The values depend on the specific notebook I guess.
