I just had that problem in gnome. Things I tried were adding my user to storage, optical and disk groups... commenting out your drives in /etc/fstab.
Go ahead and post your fstab for us.

Try commenting out your optical drives
#
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
#/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
#/dev/fd0 /mnt/fd0 vfat user,noauto 0 0
/dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 / ext3 defaults 0 1

That made no difference

Hmm, in gnome when I pushed the eject button on my cd drive nothing would happen unless I manually unmounted the drive. When I added my user to the disk group it worked but still gave me an error afterwards. The error isn't a biggie, just click OK and its gone.
You could try adding yourself to disk group and see what happens.
