Hey, I'm trying to make my laptop's lcd get darker when I haven't used it for some time... I already know how to dim it (echoing some percentage to a file in proc), but I dunno how to do the time thing (also, the file is non-writable to others, and it's owned by root:root... can I change that in proc?... will it stay that way the next time I start?
btw... I'm using gnome and laptop-mode-utils, in case any of those can help
also, I configured laptop-mode daemon to do the trick of lowering the screen brightness when I unplug the laptop... but it doesn't quite work at all...
thanks
(I'd like to thank more politely, but my english skills didn't let me)

The Gnome power manager can do this.

Again, the Gnome power manager is your friend. Or you could use acpi, but that would require more manual setup.

I looked at gnome-power-cmd.sh but didn't find anything about the screen or something... how could I tell it how to do it.

It should be in the menu under System->Preferences->Power Management. If it's not you need to install the gnome-power-manager package.

if you need to install gnome-power-manager, just install and then run with 'gnome-power-manager'. It should add a icon to the system tray and you should be able to get at the options from there.

Would making it blank be acceptable? Then you could just use gnome-screensaver with a blank screen set.
Or there could be something in your BIOS...
