congratulations and questions --> fonts

First of all hello to everyone and thanks for this distro big_smile

I'm writing from Chile and last night i installed Arch Linux from FTP. Ii also try to install it from the 0.4 ISO but it was a pain in the a**, too much trouble after installation, so i decide to install the current version from FTP and now everything is just NICE.

I started with slack 3.6 some years ago and now i get tired of compile everything so I decide to switch to debian BUT everyone uses debian or redhat so searching in the web i found this cool and nice distribution!!

ok now to the questions..

why my AA support doesn't work?

neither KDE nor mozilla can use AL fonts..

And yes, i search in the list before ask, but i didn't found an archlinux specific answer if anyone have a few minutes to help me it would be nice..

thanks a lot!!

p.s: is there a spanish faq? doc? is there a translation project? i don't know how to write in english very well (because my native language is spanish) but i can read it almost perfectly so i could help translating smile

greets!

Re: congratulations and questions --> fonts

There is currently no translation of the doc's for Spanish. I'm sure any help you could provide here would be appreciated.

As for the AA fonts, there may be a couple of reasons. First, make sure the following modules are loaded in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Load "freetype'
Load "type1"

Then make sure you actually have some TT fonts installed. Finally, from a shell run the command /etc/fonts/runme to generate the font cache files. This should have been done during the install but sometimes it doesn't seem to work.

I don't know if these are still needed but it used to be required to export these from either the ~/.bashrc or the ~/.xsession (or however you run your X)

export GDK_USE_XFT=1
export QT_XFT=1

Plus, there is a gtk2 entry for the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file. If it doesn't exist, feel free to create it. Again, I don't know if the latest releases still require this. I keep them around just to be safe and the fonts still work.

gtk-use-xft = 1

Please do not digg out four year (!) old threads.

Thank you.
