First of all CD drive sometimes autoomunts and sometime doesnt , but whenever it does it mounts it has a blank CD in GNOME .Also i get this msg----

try to do it as root. If as root it works, revise the groups that is owning your user (disk, optical, wheel...)

no i am getting the same error even when i run the command as root

It seems that the disc is malformed. You have a windows partition or anything else to test the cd?

I assume you are using HAL, have you commented out the /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd sections in fstab (you should) also, do dvds work?

ok i commented i restarted HAL but no difference , anyways today i tried a audio CD which i had bought it worked but the CD s which i have burnt are not working
