The last -Syu upgraded my GDM-themes and now I can't get my greeter to work.
I'm writing this from my Windows partition. The error says something about: /tmp/orbit-nobody
and it repeats with that error.
What is the best way to fix this? Should I change my /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf?
So that user=nobody is user=moonsurf (my user name)?
Thanks for any help.

...Also, I am new to linux, and when my GDM is in this error, blinking and not starting, it get's stuck in this repeated pattern... not working...
how do I stop the GDM from retrying to start when it is a failed error already...???
Is there a key-binding that I can stop a process with, sort of like ctrl-c.... or some sort of escape?
My problem is that the GDM keeps trying to start (even though it is a failed error) and it won't let me get into the actual config files to fix the problems....
Thanks again for any help.

try CTRL-ALT-F1 to see if you can change to a login console. Login with your user and pass or with root and see the logs at /var/log...

which log file should I read?

i'm not very good in this kind of thing, but try see the pacman log to know exactly what packages you updated, then look carefully to the remaining logs and try to find any odd message or strange thing that you think is out off place. Once you are able to get into the command line you can also try to downgrade the packages you think broke your system...
You can try log in the gnome ( assuming that is what you use ) using the startx commnand and once you're there change any configuration you think is giving the problem.
Sorry about the generic help, but i'm restraining myself from updating the system until some more input comes in the foruns ![]()

I am having the same problems. I can barely read the gdm login screen.
My graphics card is ATI Saphire and catalyst and catalyst-utils are installed.
All of this happened after yesterdays upgrade.

I found out what my problem was...
It was that my partition had run out of room and the Error:
Resource problem creating ' /tmp/orbit-nobody 'was because my last update filled my file system to 100% full...
... But now I have a new problem, it seems that when I start my computer, it is running 2 gdms so it errors on Display:0, so then it then starts my xfce4 on Display:1
Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
thanks.
