GIT version control

Hi,

I have to do a project with 1 more guy and a supervisor. In order to get the Code managed I tought about using GIT because I don't want to setup a svn server for that project. A distributed version control fits best for that purpose i think.
I searched around in the internet but some question are still open.
1. I found out how to create a new project on my machine. How to go on now?
2. how is everthing synchronised? I work on something another guy checked out my work and went on. How do I synchronise now?
3. where do I push my stuff to after making my changes
