After the upgrade to kernel 2.6.25, my sound went away. I restored the old 2.6.24 kernel and everything is back to normal.
Is there anything I can supply to make this easier to debug?

If u use via's chip, it's kernel's problem,here is the solution.

As metioned in the the above thread, maybe the only thing you need to do is delete all the sound options in /ect/modprobe.conf because the latest kernel (2.6.25.4 in my pc) will identify the chip automatically.

Codec: Realtek ALC888So basicly, I have a Realtek sound card. But I will try to delete all the sound stuff in rc.conf anway, and see what happens.
Edit: It worked <3. I did have to turn up the volume on the "Front" setting, which I didn't need before.
