"No CD drives were found"

Hi!

I'm trying to install arch for the first time, but I get an error during the installation. The error happens at step 2: "Select Packages". I choose to install the packages from an Arch Linux CD and then the installer tells me that "No CD drives were found". Why?

I googled a bit and tried to write "arch ide-legacy" when I boot, but it makes no difference. The CD drive is IDE by the way.

Anyone?

Oh, and remember the little spoon please. I'm not an experienced linux user... smile

Re: "No CD drives were found"

What release are you trying to install?

Maybe one of the following boot options helps:

arch all-generic-ide irqpoll

or

arch all-generic-ide irqpoll pci=nommconf

Re: "No CD drives were found"

you could just type modprobe ide-generic after you have booted the disk and then your drives "should" show up in the setup

Re: "No CD drives were found"

Thanks for the replies. I managed to solve the problem by using a more recent Arch install cd. I think it was the 2008RC thing.
