[SOLVED] Catalyst 8.5 - Segmentation Fault

Hi,
Since I have upgraded the kernel to 2.6.25 and catalyst to 8.5, I obtain "segmentation fault" when I type ATI-related commands (fglrxinfo, ....).
Any suggestions?

You have to put more info about your xorg.conf and hardware.

One of the problem I have is that Openoffice does not start. I have tried to install the open source ATI drivers and openoffice starts. But the max resolution supported with the open source drivers without problems seems to be 1024x768 (if I set the resolution to 1280x800, the characters in the login window are Huge!!!). I don't understand which is my error in the configuration of xorg. Maybe the segmentation problem I have with the proprietary driver are related to my wrong xorg configuration too.

Try running "ati --initial" again.

BTW. Sorry for the poor performance of Italian soccer team edBaba wink

Does the command "aticonfig --initial" reconfigure the xorg, or does it check only if "fglrx" is present in  the Device Section?

"aticonfig --initial" seems to not be a solution for my problem.

I have installed the open source driver and reconfigured the xorg.conf as suggested in the wiki after a 'hwd -xa'. Now openoffice starts.
I hope I will find the reason of the segmentation fault.

Something is really wrong.
I have ATI Firegl T2 at my laptop, and it was working with catalyst drivers.
But since catalyst 8.5 (and 8.6 also) I get segmentation faults in glxgears, glxinfo, soffice etc...

There's a workaround, you can install mesa and libgl, but I would like to have fglrx.
