Hi,
I just installed Arch with kdemod. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Pro P100.
With every linux distro I've used, I always have to add acpi=off to the kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst in order to have working sound. Apparently this is a common problem with this particular model...
Normally I wouldn't really care, but without acpi, my battery notification icon doesn't work, and I can't hibernate/sleep/etc.
Is there a way to fix this? I need sound, and I'd like to be able to have the features acpi gives me.
I have acpid installed and running.
Thanks,
-Vert

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 (not Pro) and I also had to use acpi=off to get sound. Howewer several months ago
I tried again and sound was working without switching off acpi.
There were no changes on my side apart from the normal Arch updates so I assumed that some update like alsa or
whatever had corrected the problem.
Thats not much of a help, but here is my hardware:

Interestingly, it turns out that I do have sound with acpi enabled. However, the volume is so low that I can only just barely hear it with my ear pressed up to my speaker. I have my volume turned up 100% in Amarok, alsamixer, and kmix. Any idea as to how I could fix this?

No, no idea. I have installed:
alsa-lib 1.0.17a-1
alsa-utils 1.0.17-1
and my alsa.conf is 607 lines (!!) long. Never touched it.
