Linux Blog

Yes, it's mine. And yes, this is a plug. But, it's about Linux in general and Arch in particular. I try to do a lot of stuff...installing and configuring new software, new window managers, new distributions...I occasionally posted my findings on my LiveJournal, but I figured Wordpress was a better place to do it.

Some of these have already been linked on tuxmachines. I plan to write a review of Arch when 2008-05 (2008-06?) comes out...and I'm playing with the idea of writing a comprehensive IceWM guide. We'll see.

http://celettu.wordpress.com/ if you're interested. Feedback is always welcome.

Re: Linux Blog

Nice blog.  Do a writeup of Sakura (I see you using it in the Openbox screenshots you posted).

Re: Linux Blog

i like the outcome of the vista clone you did.  do you by chance care to share your final gtk theme and icewm config?  i'd love to set this up for my family to use on an old p4 i've got laying around

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Sure thing. The theme itself is linked in the article. I'll post the modified gtkrc here. Considering the icewm config, there are five files (preferences, menu, toolbar, winoptions and startup). Do you want them all? smile

Nice blog smile

I like the panel in the Arch+Openbox screenshot story. Can you tell me what it is? I want to steal it to my desktop.

Re: Linux Blog

Lovely blog.. except for those Snap thumbnails. I don't know if it's because I don't get enough sleep these days or what, but those thumbnails drove me CRAZY I almost threw my laptop at the wall! :-D

Oh and I'm very interested in having the wallpaper in this screenshot. It looks great!

I must admit I'm a bit puzzled. Do you mean the thumbnails of the "make your iceWM look like Vista" article? smile
The wallpaper can be found here.

Actually, no. I mean the thumbnails that appear whenever you hover the pointer over any link in your blog. It shows a thumbnail of the linked page. I find it pointless and annoying and ruining an otherwise fantastic blog ;-)

And thanks a bunch for the wallpaper, celettu. It's lovely.

Have to agree with that. The blog is nice, the popup thumbnails annoying.

That's...strange. It doesn't do that here. Shall look into it smile

Edit: okay, fixed. It was a Wordpress setting in the design of the theme, and since it didn't work in my Firefox (possibly because of AdBlock Plus? No idea), I never noticed it. Should be okay now.

Thanks for the positive feedback smile

Re: Linux Blog

Got to admit, nice linux blog there (from a dutch person, duimpjes daarvoor smile)
Bit too much towards the graphical stuff out there (I would also be interested in the sakura suggestion earlier)
At any rate, keep it up, I've seen nice stuff there, and especially for the less into-linux people to see a nice and decent graphical interface I think it might just get some difference!

Thanks for the compliments wink

The graphical stuff is what I'm good at. I'm not a programmer, I don't do anything professional in IT...but I do know how to create a nice Linux desktop, so that's where the focus of the blog is smile
