Hi all,
I use last 2..6.25-ARCH kernel package from repo and my wireless Atheros card works like a charm. But when I compiled kernel 2.6.25.4 using ABS with only one config change - CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y, after booting new kernel I've got a strange problem with ath_pci driver. Here is some info from
dmesg:
ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.
ath_hal: 0.9.30.13 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5416, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413, RF2133)
wlan: trunk
ath_pci: trunk
PCI: Enabling device 0000:06:00.0 (0104 -> 0106)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:06:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:06:00.0 to 64
ath_pci: cannot remap PCI memory region
Trying to free nonexistent resource <06000001fa000000-fea16ff9f2a1ad7f>
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:06:00.0 disabled
Madwifi drivers & utils were also compiled from ABS after new kernel compilation and installation.
The result is that I am unable to get any wifi0 or ath0 device. Iwconfig below:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
I also tried to compile 2.6.24 kernel with high memory 64GB support and result was the same.
Hard'n'software that I'm using:
Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter
kernel 2.6.25.4 & 2.6.24.4
madwifi-0.9.4.3382-5
madwifi-utils-0.9.4.3382-1
I wish I could use all of 4GB RAM on Arch & my wifi card too
Has anyone an idea what's going on? Any help would be appreciated.
Greets,
cheniek

You probably need to recompile the madwifi driver package as well.

Oh, what a shame! It's working now. Thanks for help.
I did recompilation of the madwifi driver but it was before switching on the new kernel.

@chq: Did you get your madwifi device working with the new 2.6.25.4 kernel or the older .24 kernel? I seem to be getting the same problem as you are, but I didn't quite understand how you managed resolved the problem.
Thanks.

Never mind about the explanation, I downgraded the kernel back to 2.6.24-4 using the old PKGBUILD from the repos and slightly modified the madwifi PKGBUILD in abs. It works like a charm. A temporary but successful fix :-)
@SiD: Thanks for pointing out the bug report, I'll keep my eye on it.
