wicd does not connect wired network on boot-up (solved)

Is there a way to autoconnect wicd to a wired network...adsl non-dhcp fixed IP with dns servers entered...?

I had hoped that /etc/rc.local could be used but wicd isn't initialized soon enough AFAICT.

Booted into a new system and the problem went away...
