Dear all:
I really like Avant Window Navigator and I am running it with Compiz-fusion now but I would like to try some light weight window manager.
I am using XFCE and was able to enable compositor, but having a small bug in AWN. Basically whenever I launch a new programme, I have firstly a white box before the task icon added to AWN's launch/task manager....
When I use xcompmgr -cFC&, AWN works fine but the window is not refreshed when I maxmize a window... e.g. only 2/3 of the window is rendered on 2/3 and the rest part of the screen is black, it is rendered OK when I then minimize the window and restore it.
I am using an ATI M7500 with radeon driver. With options XAA acceleration, DRI, XAANoOffscreenPixmaps and composite extension enableed.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
D

I was able to reproduce the XFWM4 compositor "white box" error in my other computer (Xubuntu 8.04, XFCE, GMA3000 with "intel" driver)...
The xcompmgr works perfectly in this setup....

Thank you oliwer.
The xcompmgr-git worked for the "refresh" problem but I found that I am having the annoying white box in AWN no matter I use XFWM compositor or xcompmgr... Only compiz works for me. Probably this is a bug in AWN? Or is my computer too old.......

Wasn't xcompmgr dead ? Has it's development continued ? This seems like great news to me (unless I wasn't badly mis-informed)

Well, I think we can say that xcompmgr is a half-dead program. The Xorg developers update it when they find a bug that annoy them too much. But that is VERY rare ![]()
While looking in freedekstop's git, I've found something called glxcompmgr (xcompmgr using OpenGL) but it seems the project is dead even before it is functional.

I can see there is a reason they are dead..... Since most WMs like Gnome, XFCE and KDE have their own compositor now and it is just a matter of time when these compositor gets mature....
I am not sure whoelse had the white box prob with AWN. I probably need to report this bug....

I wouldn't bother with xcompmgr, it's buggy and extremely slow. Heck, Metacity's compositing management is better.

Yeah... I don't want to use xcompmgr that much either, but xcompmgr is the only thing that provides composite for *box.
Until there is a replacement for xcompmgr that works on *box, I'll have to stick with it, whether I like it or not. ![]()

That is correct. xcompmgr is the only chance of having compositing under a standalone window manager....

xcompmgr-git seems to work better but it is still extremely slow.
