Keeping Home from Other Distro

Hello,
I am currently using Ubuntu Linux :S and I would really love to switch to arch big_smile
However, on my Ubuntu, I have / on a 15gb~ partition, and /home on the rest (not including swap.)
When I want to install arch linux, how can I keep my /home partition untouched, just arch comes and puts configuration files on it. I don't want any of the data formatted.
If anyone can answer this questions (not much of a question) I would be greatful big_smile

Thanks,
HaXiT

Re: Keeping Home from Other Distro

If you want to share a /home partition, you need to use a different username for each distro.  Otherwise, it's better to create a separate /home partition for each distro.

No I don't want ubuntu at all, just arch linux, but keep the data on home other than the ubuntu config files.
Do you know waht I mean?

I think it would work if you don't allow the Arch installer to format the /home partition, but just let it install it's own config files to it.

Re: Keeping Home from Other Distro

It'll come out with odd things once you have similar programs installed... (mostly that would mean different versions, since ubuntu is quite slow in the update stuff)
It'll work, but some things will look weird, and you'll have unnecessary parts in /home (But I'll just assume you can handle that smile)
Just make sure you don't let arch reformat... Been there, done that - it's a pain to find out you pressed the enter button too early tongue

Re: Keeping Home from Other Distro

copying your /home folder between arch installations works pretty flawless, but from other distros...idk. Might wanna delete your .gconf* and .gnome* folders in your /home
