Hey guys,
I've been using linux for about 2 years now, all the while using the Ubuntu distribution. I wanted as much speed as possible however, and after gathering some experience, decided to make the move to Arch. The notebook I am using is the HP Pavilion DV6747TX. Specs; Intel 5550, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, nVidia 8400 GS, Intel 3945 Wifi Card.
So far I've installed Arch off the CD, encrypting the whole / (root) partition, except for a 200MB /boot partition (obviously). The system also dual boots with Windows Vista. GRUB has been set up fine, so no issues there. Have also successfully installed an X server, as well as the official Nvidia Drivers. GNOME is installed up fine. My Ethernet card also works fine (along side DHCP).
This is where the issues start however;
FIXED: GNOME recognizes my battery, this issue is fixed.
FIXED: GNOME is now working with my screen brightness.
FIXED: My Wireless card is working sweet with nm-applet now.
FIXED: GNOME is now setup to work properly with my trackpad.
Those are my main issues for now, one they are ironed out I can get to work fixing the little ones. But aside from those issues, Arch is awesome! So fast! Big thanks to the developers, and to anyone who helps me fix these issues.
Thanks

install hal and put in DAEMONS list hal (hal service will start dbus before) and add your username to the dbus, hal,network groups.
why do you start nm-applet from console? it will be run automatic when you login in gnome.

for the mouse i don't know.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Sweet, now GNOME recognizes my battery.
GNOME also recognizes my laptop as it can see the screen brightness. However changing it in GNOME doesn't do anything, and changing it via my keyboard (which works fine BTW) brings up the little brightness icon and bar, though the bar is all the way down.. But that's OK, at least we're making progress.
Launching nm-applet now results in a blank terminal (as though nothing is happening). It it set to start up upon login "nm-applet --sm-disable", however it is not visible in the panel anywhere.
Anymore help would be much appreciated.

@wake_up
Welcome to Arch!
I'm not sure if this is quite what you're looking for mouse-wise, but here is the wiki page for synaptics: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics.

Thanks! My Trackpad is now working exactly as it was in Ubuntu. Much Appreciated!

With regard to the screen brightness, the visual gnome brightness pop-up doesn't work properly for me either (but I can adjust the brightness with the laptop keys).
Nm-applet should start up automatically, If it doesn't, that means the rc.conf fill hasn't been changed to accommodate the applet. A gander at this site might help http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager .
Oh, and welcome to arch.

Thank you VERY much! My network is now up and running. The support on these forums is absolutely awesome.

As I see it everyone just suggest you to some wiki page
so if you wish to save time you can search there first .
