This might be a silly question, but is xorg using XF86Config again? I thought this configuration file was not used anymore. I think I might have thrown something off when I tried to install xorg-server-gentoo or 173.08 nvidia driver to solve a compiz fusion issue, because now every time I use nvidia-xconfig to generate the configuration file it does not create xorg.conf. Is there something I could do to resolve this?

If you already have a xorg.conf file, nvidia-xconfig will kick you out a new one. If you don't have one already, it throws out the XF86Config file. I guess no one thought it would be a good idea to change the default.

Ah ha! That makes sense. I actually tried creating another xorg.conf file while using one I saved in my home directory before making all those changes, and it created another xorg.conf instead of XF86Config file.
