Re: grub, error 15 :file not found. [solved]

Hi arthur57,
i think your post is a bit confusing:

If your menu.lst contains the following:
(0) Arch Linux
title  Arch Linux  [/boot/vmlinuz26]
root   (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro
initrd /kernel26.img

grub should echo the following:

Booting 'Arch Linux'
root    (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro vga=792

What you could do to narrow your problem:

When the grub boot menu appears type c for a command line,
then type your commands from your menu.lst:

root    (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro vga=792

If you get an error after root (hd0,2), try root (hd0,0) and vice versa.

For the next line you could try one of the following (arch should boot if you have choosen the correct line...):

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro vga=792
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=792

If you know which partitions you have on which hard disk, this information could help.

Re: grub, error 15 :file not found. [solved]

I got the same error. Forgot to configure /etc/fstab tongue
I have configured it now, but it seems like grub isn't installed. Bios goes directly into MS' bootloader.
When I try to install grub from the installer it tells me grub perhaps is already installed. And all the config files are in the wrong location.
I choose "configure system", and open up the files with nano. The path is messed up. It begins with /tmp/(...) That's not right.
What should I do?

you may hit "e"  when you boot up GRUB,and you can edit. smile

I added "/boot/" before "vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro vga=792" as rodhel said,and I enterd Arch.

Good luck!
