Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

Hi,
I have a 2.6.25.4 vanilla kernel and I have succesfully compiled fglrx modules.
When I try to load them I get

bash-3.2# modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.25.4/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted
bash-3.2# dmesg | tail
[fglrx] Adapter chains initialized successfully!
[fglrx] CF object manager initialized successfully!
[fglrx] vendor: 1002 device: 71c2 count: 1
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 1898 MBytes.
[fglrx] ASYNCIO init succeed!
[fglrx:KCL_enable_pat] *ERROR* Pat entry 2 is already configured
[fglrx] PAT is disabled!
[fglrx:firegl_init_module] *ERROR* firegl_stub_register failed
bash-3.2#

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

Do you have the 'radeon' or 'drm' kernel modules inserted?  I think they both conflict with fglrx.

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

I have the same problem:

After full update
   yaourt -Syu --aur
i got packages
   kernel26-2.6.25.4-1
   catalyst-8.5-1
Open drivers wae NOT installed on my system.
   lsmod | grep catalyst
   lsmod | grep drm
found nothing

When trying to load
   modprobe fglrx
i got
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.25-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted

and when i start my X my PC freezes and only button that works is the power button.

After recompiling catalyst package via ABS same problem

Probably kernel build bug.
Is there any chance that drm is compiled into kernel not as a module?

Another symptom is that glxgears do not refresh, but frames info is displayed in console.
{EDIT}O_o same thing happends on open drivers (and some one told me he had same problem on nvidia drivers){/EDIT}

Now i use open drivers but .. they suck sad have 60Hz and my eyes hurt hmm

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

Well, as I mentioned earlier, the radeon and drm modules will conflict with fglrx.  However, I'm wondering if there were any other conflicting modules at the time you tried to insert fglrx.

Couldn't you quit X, drop to command line, sudo rmmod radeon; sudo rmmod drm; sudo modprobe fglrx and see if that works?

I need this PC to work and i cant play with packages at the moment and fglrx package conflicts with radeon package.

Ill update this post soon (prolly tomorrow) posting the requested result

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

Sorry for the delay. I had tons of work to do on this PC.

Procedure i used to get the log:
1) pacman -S catalyst
    it removed my libgl package
2) rmmod radeon
3) rmmod drm
4) lsmod | grep catalyst
    returns empty
5) lsmod | grep drm
    returns empty
6) modprobe fglrx
returns FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.25-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted
7) dmesg
    returns

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

Okay...
You guys are not going to like this sad

The solution was on http://forum.arch-linux.pl/viewtopic.php?id=1813

Original

Trzeba bylo wyłączyć drm z kernela utworzyć moduły agpgart i nvidia-agp bo gdy były wgrane w jadra nie chciały działać poprawnie potem instalacja sterowników na nowo i wszystko gra i buczy wink

Translation

You need to disable drm from kernel, create modules agpart and nvidia-agp, because they didn't work as a part of the kernel, then reinstall drivers ant its working

Personaly i would say it's a kernel bug.

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

If it were a kernel bug, though, you'd think that everyone would have this issue.  Odd..

Re: Ati x1600 and fglrx modules

My bad.
That solution is for kernel26thinkpad.
I have kernel26.
Fglrx still doesn't work.
