Adding a splash screen to boot on Arch Linux installation

I've been running Arch i686 for a while now and I am pretty happy with it. Now I want to add a nice splash screen for the boot sequence. I've been looking at the splashy package but I am bit confused about it. If I use the splashy package do I need a special version of the kernel or can I use the stock Arch kernel?

The wiki doesn't seem to mention another kernel so I assume you can just use the stock kernel:

It's fbcondor that requires a special kernel:
