MPD music

hey guys. tryin' out mpd here...the music started out pretty loud, so I had to turn down the PCM volume, but that turns down the volume of everything else so that it's really quiet. any way around this?

Re: MPD music

Of course! Just comment out the ALSA mixer in your MPD configuration file and uncomment the "software" mixer a few lines down.

Re: MPD music

If you want to have MPD using a different volume from all of your other apps globally on your system, I'd suggest making a separate volume control that MPD can use in /etc/asound.conf

pcm.mpdvol{
  type softvol
  slave.pcm "dmixer"
  control{
    name "MPD"
    card 0
  }
}

Something akin to the above would be how one might go about setting up such a control with alsa.

The water never asked for a channel, and the channel never asked for water.
