I usually install Opera after I have KDE installed and running, but this time I decided not to, and I'm paying for it. the SS shows the ugly (look like gtk1) menu's, and choppy text on the AUR page.
edit: I thought I followed the font wiki pretty well... I have ttf, and *-lcd packages installed

You can tell opera exactly which fonts to use. Preferences -> Advanced -> Fonts. Go for it.

or just install the msfonts and bitstream-vera packages... instantly will look better :9

The ugly style is not gtk 1 but qt, i think you can fix it somehow by installing the polymer package and using a program called qtconfig or something... (found in /opt/ for qt3, and /usr/ for qt4)

Menu : install the qt package and change the theme with qtconfig.
Fonts: in opera:config disable the core X fonts.

Well, I have managed to change all the fonts except those used by the archlinux homepage. See this : http://xs128.xs.to/xs128/08235/2008-06- … rot551.png
I don't think I missed any font entries. If you all know how to fix it, please do not hesitate to post.

I'm not sure about the fonts, but for the ugly menu if you haven't fixed it yet: you could tell opera what qt theme you want it to use by using the -style option, in my case, I run opera by using opera -style plastique, and opera will be using the plastique qt theme.

Sole, dude that looks amazing. How many other styles are there?
Offline
There were 5 that came with qt I think, you can see what styles are there using qtconfig, and could change their settings there too.

ah, I should be more specific... I am running the latest weekly-build, and when I ran opera with the options you gave, I got this spiffy new skin... It's really quite nice.

Same here.
And about the -style option, it didn't do anything here... maybe I was already using plastique style.
Is there any way to change the menu appearance? I didn't find any option in opera nor qtconfig.

Same problem here, my menus look ok but arch homepage fonts are ugly. Anyone find a fix for this yet?

Had the same problem, disabling core X fonts in opera:config solved it for me.
also running latest weekly build.

You can find it under User Prefs - Enable Core X Fonts. New Opera is awesome.

I cannot believe that I missed it, and I looked there so many times!
It made a world of difference, and fonts look as smooth as ice. Many thanks.
This should probably be marked as solved, and if possible added to a wiki about opera.
