I am an intermediate linux user (started with ubuntu about 1.5 years ago) and today I embarked upon the great journey of Arch Linux.:D
I installed using the CORE 2008.03 disc, and got Xorg, GNOME, and GNOME-extras installed successfully. As I was perusing the menu selections I noticed that under 'System -> Preferences' there lived the antiquated 'Emerald Theme Manager'.
If I am not mistaken (and please let me know if I am), with the advent of Compiz-Fusion Emerald ceased to exist as a separate configuration tool. So if C-F has been out for a pretty long while now, why was it installed with either 'gnome' or 'gnome-extra'? Is the package tree out of date or something?
I'm not too terribly upset - I simply removed 'emerald' via pacman. I'm just curious as to why it is still included in the base version of GNOME...
Have fun.

It shouldn't have been installed with Gnome, Gnome uses Metacity as it's window manager. Emerald is still the window manager of Compiz-Fusion.
