Cannot install compiz-fusion correctly

I am new to Arch Linux (have been an Ubuntu user for about 1.5 years)

I installed a near-complete (in my view) Arch system once, and then decided to install the whole thing again to make sure I learned it as best as I could. This time I've run into a couple problems...:/

I cannot seem to install 'compiz-fusion' from the command line. After running

# pacman -Sy compiz-fusion

the cli asks for the normal input from the user, lists the packages to be installed, etc.

When it arrives at the stage

(29/29) checking for file conflicts

it returns the following;

error: could not prepare transaction
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
mesa: /usr/include/GL/gl.h exists in filesystem
mesa: /usr/include/GL/glext.h exists in filesystem
mesa: /usr/include/GL/glx.h exists in filesystem
mesa: /usr/include/GL/glext.h exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

If I'm interpreting these errors correctly, this has something to do with my graphics configuration -- I just don't know what exactly. So far I have installed 'xorg', 'nvidia', 'hwd', 'gnome', 'gnome-extra', and the proprietary drivers for my nVidia card (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp … 14.05.html)

At this stage I am still booting into runlevel 3 by default.

Would definitely appreciate learning a lesson on this one.

Thanks

Re: Cannot install compiz-fusion correctly

Hey my friend.  I see nobody has replied to you.  I thought maybe I would give it a try.  I have had that problem before and I have found as long as you install the nvidia drivers the "arch" way via pacman everything gets installed correctly and you should be good to go.  If you are not willing to do that here is what a little searching will give ya.

Hopefully that helps you out.  GL.

Re: Cannot install compiz-fusion correctly

Yes, you should install the nvidia drivers via pacman instead of using the nvidia binary. This makes sure that dependancy checking is done properly with all of you packages and prevents multiple packages from installing the same file. Also, Arch doesn't really make much use of runlevels. You should read up on adding items to rc.conf or modding inittab if you wish to boot into a grahical environment upon bootup.
