write protected empty file called "1" found in &qu

Does anybody have this file on their system?  "/1"  I don't know when it showed up but I don't think I put it there.  I was about to delete it when I thought of asking the forum first just in case....   

Is it safe to delete?  Out of curiosity, does anyone know what created it?

It was a bad post install script that created that file.  You can safely delete it.
