Re: Arch linux animated logo

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late reply, have been very busy with school and stuff. (and building an arcade machine running Arch, check Instructables.com and search for arcade, its looking a lot cooler now than on those pictures.)

It's great seeing you guys using it with such creativity. I was hoping it would happen. Maybe if the new boot splash thingy comes out (from Red Hat i think) the video would be incorporated.

As for how i made it, sadly not as opensource as i would have liked it. I'm trying to get in to movie visual fx so i used Shake 4 for it (on linux though).

have fun using it!

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Have incorporated the animated logo as an item in my Faunos boot process.

I set it up in /etc/rc.local with..............mplayer /home/guest/(flash file ID from rio6000)...

It displays and plays audio prior to the KDE init and looks very imposing!!! EDIT: full screen!

Many thanks for the effort rio!!!!

EDIT:  Tried same thing on archlinux boot... audio OK but video is white screen...latest kernel...?

Re: Arch linux animated logo

That's awesome. I imagine it to be some sort of introduction to Arch on a Distro DVD or something. Or maybe a TV commercial! :-)

This is excellent, it should be used in Arch Linux related videos smile Now if only I could think of another use for it!

Wow, great job on this. If I ever make any type of Arch Linux video, I'll definitely add it (and credit you of course).

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Tried the /etc/rc.local procedure with Dragon and smplayer with no success for the video.

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Used a link to /etc/rc.local which was entered into Faunos kde Autostart.

This provided a repeating archlinux logo via the flashfile from rio6000, after kde was loaded and desktop completed.  This was in addition to the display during boot-up from the same rc.local listing.

The size was just right for the desktop display area and the display repeated at a rate of once every 4 seconds with both video and audio.

Deleted with mouse click.

I have had no progress in getting the kde4 archlinux settings to display the same file in archlinux.

My kde4 does many strange things.

Perhaps I need to change permissions on the flashfile?  Root should be able to do anything ........................

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Installed HDD archlinux with older kernel having kde3.5 installed.

Performed the rc.local procedure and obtained the animated flash logo on the desktop with a single 4 second video/audio display after kde was finished installing.  Size was compatible with the display.  Suspect that full screen could be included in rc.local if desired.

Thus, the archlinux system using kde3.5 can utilize the flash file as I have described but kde4 archlinux has not responded in a similar fashion.

I have serious difficulties with kde4 and find it counter-productive on my machine...much to do with eye-candy but not easily utilized in my activities.

The animated logo by rio6000 is a nice addition to the boot!!

Re: Arch linux animated logo

With this archlinux kernel boot(2.6.25) vlc plays the flashfile while in root mode.

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Added to rc.local to make mplayer full screen which produced a full screen animated flash  at desktop.

Also added a vlc to the rc.local mix and it played the animated flash logo at desktop following the display by mplayer...two instances!!!! Both full screen.

Will revert to just the mplayer.......................

Re: Arch linux animated logo

Some of the displays have resulted in a few seconds of out of sync video(audio ok) followed by a proper video display in sync.

It suggests that archlinux creates order out of chaos!

It might be a good alternate flash video idea..............
