Hi to all,
Have some problems with Arch installation.
Dell Inspiron 1520
T7100, 2Gb RAM, nvidia 8400M w/128Mb, 160Gb HDD AHCI mode, Intel 4965AGN, WebCam, BlueTooth
Dual Boot ArchLinux & Vista
Arch installed from i686-2008.3 CD.
First problem is about boot screen - some lines are in wrong position. Sorry can't explain it good, but I can see difference cause I have Arch installed on my Box PC. Last lines with info about USB are so down, after first lines of last init section). *(not so important at all)
Second problem is my wifi card. I use netcfg2 with two profiles (for home and work). At home I have no problem (actually small distance till router). But in office - goes something strange.
If I use ArchLive or UbuntuLive or OpenSUSE Live everything is OK. (meters show not less then 45%)
But ntecfg could start working in room next to mine (it closer to router then mine) and after connect I can use connection as long as I need. But directly from my room - "Wireless Association failed".
I'm not sure but I think it's problem with PCI interrupting or like this.
Thank you
P.S. Sorry for my english

Hi,
Have you updated your system (and therefore the kernel)? pacman -Syu
Could you post the dmesg with the new kernel.

So you can get wifi access in the room closer to the router, and maintain that connection if you go to the other room?
But you can't connect to the access point in the other room (more away from the access point)?
Offline
Yes.
I can't do this with ArchLinux installation (network profiles and wicd) and can with any Live-CD (mentioned above).
As well I can see errors about hub-usb and afraid that I have problems not with wifi card but with installation at all (irq or like this).
I can send you any of logs as well logs with connection errors.
Offline
Some logs about connection errors would be fine. Give us all logs you can think of. Can you check what version of the iwl4965 driver you're using in the other distributions (not Archlinux)?
Offline
I'll try to do this till friday evening because I'll be out of country from today's evening till friday morning.
Will update my topic on friday.

And because of errors connected to hub usb I'm not sure wifi problem is driver problem.
How can I check irq interrupt and motherboard power sheme manipulation.
(could it be some problems with some modules interferance???)

To Fackamato
BTW what kind of install you have? (all stock or selfbuild)
My desision is to rebuild kernel, modules and all staff I need by myself.

We do not have the same network card.
I have a stock x86 install, although I'm using the tuxonice kernel from AUR with CONFIG_LATENCYTOP enabled (just for fun). My wireless card works the same in the stock kernel as in the tuxonice kernel (I'm using ndiswrapper).
I don't think you would gain anything from compiling your own kernel, what configuration options would you change?

I expect change in Kernel alsa support, CPU and switch off all I don't need.
As well I'll re-build 4965 module by myself.
I don't like errors regarding usb and want to try to change this.
Hope to post result in next friday.

Okay, fair enough. What kernel will you build?

Not sure now.
Will read and will ask friend of mine (like Arch guru, but can't say anythink about my problems, he saw everythink and - ......)
BTW, I found strange config of stock Ubuntu (live cd) kernel. There is no (!) 4965. And it works. ![]()
