Look at the output of pacman when you add the "--debug" flags and post it here if you are still stuck.

Please post result of:
sudo pacman -V (or just pacman -V if you are root)
cat /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
my idea is: you are using a slow mirror to download stuff from. Let's check anyway.

This has been happening to me too, ever since I installed Arch. It just freezes and you have to kill it with CTRL-C and then re-run it to continue the download where it left off...

I've also had these problems, just beginning the last few days. I haven't had time to look closely at it though, so I didn't feel good about posting anything yet. But if others have a similar issue I may as well chip in

I have installed Arch yesterday and today I was still running fine and downloading packages at normal speed.

change your mirrors. The connection to the mirror is getting dropped. I get the same thing sometimes with the ga-tech ftp server when it's in my mirror list

Well, shouldn't pacman re-activate the connection on it's own ? I always have to babysit it, because if I leave it to download something that could take a while and go off doing something else, most of the time I return to see it's downloaded just a little bit and stopped. This is frustrating.
Oh, and I have tried several mirrors, it always happens.

Yea, I once tried pacman-optimize and it hosed it, I was unable to install/remove/update anything from that point. So I just re-installed....
