extracting/decompiling camera firmware

I have a Kodak M753. It seems like a fine camera but the firmware is really lacking. Unfortunately its not Canon so no CHDK for me.
Luckily, the firmware is available on the website, and the installation process as far as I know is just to copy the firmware onto my sd card (YESSS!)

So, now I need to be able to decompile the firmware and all that. I have an M753.fw file that I got from the kodak website. Will any 'fwcutter' do(I doubt it) or does anyone know of any sort of general decompiling software I should give a try? I am by no means an expert programmer and I expect this kind of thing requires a deep understanding of the camera architecture, but I am definitely willing to try whatever it is you guys know how to do.
