Re: how to install LXDE

Here's a link to the LXDE setup.

http://lxde.sourceforge.net/install.html

pacman -Ss lxde will reveal the LXDE packages available via pacman.
lxtask can be found in aur.
lxnm can be found at source fourge.

Setup openbox first, the wiki is your friend;-)
Slim is a nice login manager, again the wiki is your friend.

Re: how to install LXDE

I'm not sure, but you should get everything if you download all the packages from this page with pacman. http://lxde.org/about.html Then anything else try and get here http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O … _Search=Go Openbox, pcmanfm, and probably lxpanel are all in the official repos....

Post back if you need help.

-Zack

p.s. I don't use lxde, just openbox and pcmanfm..

Re: how to install LXDE

Most of the lxde packages are already in Arch community repo (Thanks to gcarrier).
1. Add community repo to your pacman.conf.
2. pacman -Sy lxde
3. Run startlxde in your Xsession.
4. Showoff to your friends
5. Subscribe lxde mailing list or join the irc channel. http://lxde.org/contact.html

The compatibility with Arch is guaranteed since the lead developer is using Arch now. tongue
Cheers!

BTW, I'm the lead developer. If you have any problem, feel free to join our irc channel.

1. You can start by checking out our latest source code from svn. We are not using svn://something. It's just https, so it works anywhere. Just issue those commands:

svn co https://lxde.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/lxde/trunk lxde
svn co https://pcmanfm.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pcmanfm/ pcmanfm

As you can see, the file manager is in another repo.

2. Try to do some hacks, and make some patches. Post the patches in the issue trackers on http://sf.net/projects/lxde/, and drop me a mail. We will review your patches. If they are good, I'll add you to our project members, and give you svn access. Then you can check your code in by yourself. In this way, you can have your own name/credit in the svn log.
I'm very glad that you're willing to help. However I need to make sure you know what you're doing, so I'll review the patches for you first. Otherwise, if you are very confident and experienced, I can give you the access directly, too. Anyway, welcome!

3. Your English is quite ok since mine is poor, too. I'm from Taiwan, and we speck Chinese here. :-)

Yes, I'm using ArchLinux (Switched from Ubuntu).
Compiz-Fusion doesn't work on my box, so I cannot debug.
I'm not able to get my ATI work according to the Arch wiki.

Re: how to install LXDE

after 32 distro I had probed, I finally stick with arch, it's veryt clean and fast. What kind of trouble do U have with your ATI, no DRI?

Re: how to install LXDE

Well I can say I actually had lxde running with just compiz-fusion really unsure how but it worked. Was only experimenting so didn't want to bring in a *box or such like surprised me in the end.

Still struggle understanding when it is a DE and WM but that helped a little bit, not being able to move anything till I had started compiz-fusion. Though starting was a little of challenge without a desktop menu.

It did some strange stuff when starting lxpanel took several minutes to appear then it was all fine. FX5500 with nvidia driver.
