running opengl screensavers goes FUBAR

That is an attempt at running glmatrix screensaver. When I run glmatrix through xwinwrap, the same symptom appears but only with the background - ie all the other windows stay. I have beryl and all the fancy stuff works normally as it should. Also glxgears works. All the other opengl screensavers will give the same symptom. When I had my comp shut off for a few hours and then turn it back on, glmatrix will work again. This problem started this morning, and three days before that I had upgraded from a used 6600 to  a used 6600GT which made a large performance increase. It uses a heatpipe, although its cool to the touch and only 51C in the nvidia settings thing. So it can't be overheating. What's going on here ?

the problem goes away when i choose kwin as window manager ? any help still out there ?

What window manager / desktop environment were you using when you had the problem?
