Anyone know how to open an Aspire 3000 series laptop?

I have reason to suspect my laptop's fan and heatsinks are full of dust, but I can't get at them; the machine is very difficult to open, and some of the screws are covered by the monitor panel. Does anyone know how get at an Aspire 3680's fan?

(The instruction manual, unsurprisingly, is useless on this topic.)
