can't access ACPI

When starting gnome... and error window appears

can't access ACPI events in /var/run/
acpid.socket! Make sure the ACPI subsystem is
working and the acpid daemon is running.

i'm drawing a blank and feel like an idiot for posting this especially since a search for this on the forum turns up absolutely nothing having to do with this error message.

Re: can't access ACPI

Did you install "acpid"?

If "acpid" is installed, is it running?

To install "acpid":

pacman -Sy acpid

To start "acpid":

/etc/rc.d/acpid start

To start "acpid" at boot time, edit the DAEMONS section of your /etc/rc.conf:

DAEMONS=(... @acpid ...)

Re: can't access ACPI

*hangs head in shame*

It's always the simple stuff that gets me LOL In my frenetic installation of ARCH I apparently forgot to include 'acpid' in my huge pacman list

*rolls eyes* I did however manage to remember to place it into my daemons list even though it wasn't installed lol.
