Vertical Stripes on screen when starting gnome

I have recently installed Arch with no problems. After that i followed the wiki and installed xorg and an xf86-i810 driver for my  intel 82815 graphic controller. Then i installed gnome and gdm. Edited  ~/.xinitrc and uncommented exec gnome-session , when i type startx i can't use the keyboard or mouse and i see a few vertical stripes on my monitor. I have configured xorg with hwd.

Sounds like your modelines ae buggered, or it's guessed your Vertical and/or Hortizontal refresh rates incorrectly.  Have a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log for more clues --- and if you're still not sure, use a pastebin with its contents and that of your xorg.conf file.
