EEE troubles

Hi guys,

I ordered an EEE pc 900, and I'm looking around for a distro to put onto it. I'm relatively new at Linux (though I've experimented with it, and I have a ClarkConnect box for which I had to recompile the IDE driver), but I remember Arch as having good package management...

Are there any EEE pc users among you who care to share how complete Arch's support for EEE pc's is?

I'm thinking about:
- out-of-the-box NIC and wifi usability
- availability of NIC and wifi driver packages
- ACPI & special functions (OSD, function keys)
- drivers for audio and webcam
...

Thanks!

Re: EEE troubles

Hi,

I have an EEE 701 and Arch runs perfectly on it. Here is a forum thread about Arch on EEE (mainly 701, but I think you will find enough information there): http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=39375 and here is a wiki page: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … sus_EEE_PC

Re: EEE troubles

I installed Core (from usb stick) and am able to boot/shutdown. (had most stuff working under Xubuntu, but it wasn't my cup of tea). Following days, I'll try to get a fully functional EEE install. Is the wiki page up-to-date enough?

Re: EEE troubles

Hi,

it seems I've hit a wall somewhere. I have a vanilla XFCE up and running, but I'm stuck to get wifi, webcam, asus_acpi and osd up and running.

I installed all of toofishes' packages, and I can boot up with the new kernel, but it gives me some troubles I didn't have in the 'clean' install.
- kernel option vga=789 causes a blank screen, so I have to remove it. This works just fine with the stock kernel
- I dare not install the eee modules since the wiki warns of conflicts with toofishes' packages.
- camera does not work (or at least not with cheese)
- I once managed to see my wireless network in Wicd, but now it keeps saying 'initializing wicd' (on the tray icon)

I also get errors complaining about a non-existent locale (used to be US utf8 or something, I changed it to POSIX because that's one of the only ones existing in locales -a, but that doesn't seem to help either). (these errors exist with the stock kernel as well)

These are probably stupid newbie errors, but if someone could give me a hand with them, I'd be a happy camper smile

EDIT: edited for more information

Oh and if some mod would please move this to 'installation' forum instead...
