I like Firefox 3, but I find the new history dropdown menu immensely annoying. Is there a way to get the old Firefox 2 style history menu back?

Go to about:config and enter urlbar into the filter, then double-click the MatchOnlyTyped entry, changing it to true.

Thanks... That's not exactly what I had in mind but it's a huge help.

As for the smart bookmarks, or whatever they are called, I just deleted all that from my bookmarks menu with right-clicks and delete.

there's an extension somewhere that gets the old bar back. It's called oldbar - look on ff addons or in the addon manager.

I have enabled "Match Only Typed" as suggested by ozar, and also used the right-click and delete, but I still have smart bookmarks that will not disappear. I find them very annoying, and have move to Opera Development which works very well. Still, I would like Firefox3 to work without all that garbage. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Why Opera Development? 9.5 stable has been released! About a week or go if I recall correctly. Looks and works very nicely.

I really like the new history thing

I don't mind the "Smart Location Bar" at home, but I'm more mindful of keeping my interests private when I'm at work. For example, I have my firefoxes preferences at my workplace set to clear private data every time I close firefox. So the new location bar behavior bothered me. I went into about:config and changed browser.urlbar.maxRichResults to 0 (zero). Now I'm clean at work again.
