No thanks, I'll just use pacman...

I don't think if you just get firefox through pacman or any package manager it will contribute to the count... So even though it's available through pacman, if you'd like to contribute, you should still download via their servers.

They've got a good shot at the record. They want 1.6 million, and 1.4 million have already pledged to download it at the link. They will have way over their goal.

Wait is this breaking a record or setting a new one? Because I couldn't find the current record for the most downloads in the first 24 hours of release on Guinness' site.

It's setting a new record, not breaking one. In other words a pointless PR stunt.

this site says setting a record.
guess I made a mistake in the title. Setting a record is less exciting.

What's the point of all this? If that is to increase the software's propaganda, I believe the best way to do that is to create good software. If this gives me an impression of something, that's cherished fanboyism (I'm not attaking any user here, I just don't like the initiative they have taken).

YAY!!!, lets download Firefox. Come on finferflu, have fun. Microsoft does a lot of bad things, a lot of bad propaganda and practices, yet we are only asked to download firefox, an open source project to contribute to it. I'll do it. And I say, Everyone should do it.

Lol, this reminds me of when Quake was released and the internet kinda died. Be interesting to see how modern hardware holds up ![]()

I wouldn't really call it propaganda or fanboyism. It's saying something Bill Gates said would hurt the software industry. Back when Micro-soft was a garage company, he wrote an open letter saying that open source software has no place in today's society and it will be the ultimate doom of the software industry. That was the very same letter that started the concept of proprietary software. Having a big achievement is showing that we can survive with open source software. That you can indeed have quality, successful software through open source. It's more of a beacon, having open source software actually putting a mark in the software industry.

Can't download it now. I get an error saying there are too many connected users.

Look at firefox3 in [unstable], I assume that PKGBUILD should work.

They haven't actually released yet. I had downloaded some sort of pre-version.
Will post the moment it is launched.

When I compile with those files, it ends up being called minefield, even though it is not a trunk build.

You want something like "ac_add_options --enable-branding" in your mozconfig then, I'm totally sure about the syntax, look in the official mozconfig file (or maybe just use the official one).

Having problems here too. 1.7million+ trying to download 10MB. They will break the record for most bogged down server. Based on my experience, the current record holder is sourceforge.
