[SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

Hi, i have just updated the system by "pacman -Syu" and it has updated gnome-do (witch i had perfectly working before) and now it does not longer work :S. If i start gnome-do in a terminal it tells me this:

Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Extension node not found in path: /Do/ItemSource
  at Mono.Addins.ExtensionContext.AddExtensionNodeHandler (System.String path, Mono.Addins.ExtensionNodeEventHandler handler) [0x00000]
  at Mono.Addins.AddinManager.AddExtensionNodeHandler (System.String path, Mono.Addins.ExtensionNodeEventHandler handler) [0x00000]
  at Do.Core.PluginManager.Initialize () [0x00000]
  at Do.Do.Main (System.String[] args) [0x00000]

Sincerely, i dont have  a clue about what does it mean, i have tried to install de aur's one, by "yaourt" and i have tried to uninstall it an reinstall, also i have deleted my .config files to be sure it isn't that but it still doesn`t work...
Anyone knows what can be wrong?? Thx!!

PD: I have just found that i can downgrade the package, but i need the "gnome-do-0.4.0-2.pkg.tar.bz " (that is the one i was using) and i havent it at /var/cache/pacman/pkg, does anyone know how could i get it? I have looked for it in many repositories, but all of them have the  0.5.1 version...

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

From the post install message:

>> The gnome-do-plugins package is now depreciated.

>> As of GNOME Do version 0.5 all plugins can and should be installed
>> using the "Plugins" tab in GNOME Do's preference window.

>> You also can manually install plugins by putting the DLL file
>> in ~/.local/share/gnome-do/plugins and restarting GNOME Do.

So, unistall gnome-do-plugins,  and probably "rm -rf ~/.local/share/gnome-do/plugins/" to clear the old plugins out.  Run gnome-do, type preferences and install away...

This doesn't work. Deleting the plugins, the config, and reinstalling gnome-do still leaves a non-starting gnome-do. Does anyone actually have a working 0.5.0, or is it just completely broken?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

Well, I have it working, otherwise I wouldn't have uploaded it to community...   So I just want to confirm that the package gnome-do-plugins is not installed anymore on your system.  Because that is what the error reminds me of.

Edit: See https://bugs.launchpad.net/do/+bug/239416

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

I also get the exact same error message, and I installed gnome-do yesterday. That was the first time I installed gnome-do, so I'm certain that I do not and never have had gnome-do-plugins installed.

If you haven't installed it before, then it seems we really have a problem.  What arch are you using?

I'm using Arch64, with the core, community and extra repos. I also did a pacman -Suy before installing gnome-do.

Edit: I removed the gnome-do folder in .local, and then I get another error before the posted one:

ERROR: Add-in scan operation failed. The Mono runtime may have encountered an error while trying to load an assembly.
ERROR: Add-in scan operation failed
ERROR: The add-in database could not be updated. It may be due to file corruption. Try running the setup repair utility

  at Do.Core.PluginManager.Initialize () [0x00000]
  at Do.Do.Main (System.String[] args) [0x00000]

Running gnome-do again only produces the unhandled exception error.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

OK, I can replicate this error on x86_64.  But this error is really, really screwy.

This is how I fixed it:

rm -rf ~/.local/share/gnome-do
gnome-do

That fixed it about 1 time in 3.  Just keep doing it until it is fixed....   Repeating it once gnome-do is working again caused it to break again...   I have absolutely no idea what is causing this or how to track it down!

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

About the arch version, im in arch 64 too.
I've just uninstalled gnome-do, gnome-do-plugins and removed the ~/.local/share/gnome-do and .config/gnome-do files, restarted the computer (to be sure gnome-do isn't working or something) and then reinstalled gnome-do. It still doesn't work, it gives me the same Unhanded Exception plus this :

ERROR: Add-in scan operation failed. The Mono runtime may have encountered an error while trying to load an assembly.
ERROR: Add-in scan operation failed
ERROR: The add-in database could not be updated. It may be due to file corruption. Try running the setup repair utility

It seems that the problem is only in arch64 doesn't it? Maybe it needs some lib32 or something? :S

EDIT: I have found a gnome-do-0.4 source file, i have compiled to my home directory (after uninstalling gnome-do and plugins from pacman) and defined the PATH variable and it works perfectly, it seems either the package 0.5 or the code itselft is corrupted or something.  It is just a workaround, but if anyone needs gnome-do as much as i do it works wink

Yes, I can confirm this. After removing the folder a couple of times it suddenly worked. Seems like there's some kind of race condition somewhere that fails most of the time.

Same here, I had to run it like 10 times, but it finally works, anyway there are some bugs loading the plugins, but at least it seems to be working. Thanks!

Thanks guys, this workaround fixed it for me too. I'm also on x86_64, seems like this bug might be 64-bit specific.

They work fine for me... they just all start as disabled and have to be enabled in the preferences.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

I have the same issue with tomboy...

when I run tomboy, I get:

$ tomboy
[DEBUG]: NoteManager created with note path "/home/imachine/.tomboy".
[INFO]: Initializing Mono.Addins
ERROR: Add-in scan operation failed. The Mono runtime may have encountered an error while trying to load an assembly.

hmm

removing and adding the tomboy folders does nothing.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

I'm on arch64 and I am getting this error in tomboy as well.  Removing my ~/.tomboy directory gets it going again, but it would be nice not to loose all my notes.  Perhaps it's a problem with mono or one if the libararies related to it.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

I'm getting what looks like Mono errors with both Tomboy and Gnome-Do.

I'm on Arch64, fully updated, and here is what I get when running Tomboy in a terminal :

[flick@lil-spooky ~]$ tomboy

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

Sure does look like a problem with mono, or a related library. I did a Google search for this string from my non-functional Tomboy :

Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Extension node not found in path: /Tomboy/ApplicationAddins

and got this : http://www.mail-archive.com/desktop-bug … 06173.html

Hopefully something that will be solved soon through updated mono libraries?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

I think that it is a gnome-do bug.
i remove all packets in home but gnome-do doesn't start.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

This seems to be a mono-addins or mono bug on Arch64 (probably other 64-bit distros aswell).

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome-do broken after update :S

In the mean time, this is how I've been loading tomboy.  Sometimes it takes a while, but eventually loads for me.

#!/bin/sh

[ 0 -eq 1 ] # Fake an error to get started

until [ $? -eq 0 ]; do
    rm -rf ~/.tomboy/addins ~/.tomboy/addin-db-* ~/.tomboy/manifest.xml && tomboy
done
