Ok I did a clean install of arch using my old CD 2007.05. I'm sorry but I'm on a 56K connection ...
When I did the Pacman -Syu, everything went well (please note I upgraded pacman myself first to be sure it was fine before doing the big upgrade).
Then I had to do "source /etc/profile" and "upgradedb" to get good paths and correct a few things.
After my first reboot, when trying running wvdial (and other tools requiring gcc) I had this error :
error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_S.S0.1 Cannot open shared object fileI corrected this reinstalling gcc-libs. But now, I imagine other libraries are not functioning since I get this error in wvdial, :
[root@myhost fred]# wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT5145992743
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT5145992743
ERROR
--> Invalid dial command.
--> Disconnecting at Sun Jun 1 15:44:18 2008I did a post about that in the network section here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=49855.
As you can read in the post doing "echo ATDT phonenumber > /dev/ttyS0" returns nothing.
Since gcc was not working after the upgrade, do you think a lot of libraries could be in trouble or missing and giving me this error? And which libraries could be needed for a hardware modem?
