I wonder why this has not been done before. I mean, community packages are also in AUR, which makes it possible to comment on the PKGBUILDs without opening a bug report and to flag packages as outdated. Why not do the same with other repos such as core or extra ? That would also prevent people from creating duplicate packages since they would already exist in AUR.
Now, I don't know if tis would be technically possible / easy to implement but I think it would also stop people from rumbling about outdated packages, they would just have to flag them as outdated in AUR and they'd know that the maintainer has been noticed.

you can flag repo packages too.
All design goals must be phrased in such a way that it is hard to use them as slogans to justify stupidity.

Oh, that's true, I had never noticed this functionality, it's more hidden than in the AUR.

That's due to probability. The chances of some unknown new guy forgetting his packages is tenfolds that of a developer, or rather, the chances of a developer being unaware of an upstream update is least likely.
The packages are right on the frontpage. It's less hidden than AUR. It just has a different look, so that may be the reason why one wouldn't notice.
I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

Yea, the only thing that your proposal brings is the possibility to comment. For the rest, there's ABS.
