Which to install

I am new to linux I have try a few live now I have a spare computer so I want to do a hard drive install. So I am downloading  arch-0.6.iso or arch-0.6-basic.iso which one should I install? I have DSL modem.

The computer is an: Amd 2400+ with 512mb memory, 40gb hard drive, dvd player, cdrw writer and hp f50 monitor.

Plus I have a photosmart 7260 printer, scanjet 3500c and photosmart 320 camera.

Should there be any problem with the hardware?

Thanks Jack

Since you have a fast connection, I recommend the base iso (I think you call it basic in your post). It just has the core packages on it. You can then upgrade all installed packages and add any other packages you want using pacman.

I'm not familiar with your specific hardware, but chances are if it is reported to work with linux, then it works with Arch.

btw, welcome to the community.

Re: Which to install

will the base.iso give you a complete running linux system : YES
will the base.iso give you a system with all hardware detected and ready for use, with a graphical login screen and gnome/kde installed : NO

the install-guide tells you what to do, and what you end up with, and the WIKI and this great forum gives you other relevant info...

good luck..

btw: this thread should be moved to the installation topic
