kde i18n packages...

Question now that kde packages have been updated to 3.2.3 and the i18n packages are still at 3.2.1 when will these get updated? I have a few friends who's native language isn't english who uses them. So just curious since they are apart of kde..

Re: kde i18n packages...

if they ar enot flagged out of date you could do that. to answer your question with my knowledge "they will be updated when they are updated" to give you a real answer though i wouold really recommend contacting the maintainer as they will best know what their timeline is for release of those packages.

Re: kde i18n packages...

My experience is that with every kde upgrade building and uploading i18n takes some time. They usually show up within 2-4 days after main kde packages upgrade. There is just a lot of them and I would suggest two solutions:
- wait with the kde upgrade until new i18n packages are released or
- rebuild and upgrade i18n packages with abs (usually it's just changing package version and running makepkg - really so simple...)
The second way is my preferred way :-)

Re: kde i18n packages...

Only reason I asked was they weren't even updated with the last kde update....and I know usually within a few days of kde packages and figured I'd ask since they weren't updated with kde 3.2.2 and it's now 3.2.3....:) Wasn't meaning to rush anything or sound pushy just curious..

Trust me I don't mind recompiling them myself since I have a few packages I make for myself anyways..:) Just figured I wouldn't if they were expected to be on the repos within the next couple days since I don't use kde anyways.

Next time I'll just toss an email to the maintainer rather then posting here, probably the proper method anyways..:) Thanks for the input..

Re: kde i18n packages...

HI,

regarding the i18n pkgs there are over 40, that's alot of PKGBUILD's to edit and lots to build, seen as it is also just localization stuff, and no 'real' apps keeping i18n up-to-date isn't as critical (unless there is bad translation, in which case, file a bug report on here). So i don't plan on rebuilding the i18n anytime soon, i've got exams for the next few weeks, so i've got revision to do for that. However if there are any critical issues in a i18n pkg specific to your locale, please file a bug report and i will be able to upgrade specific ones.
Hope this is ok, if you have any quesies, just either PM me, or reply here smile

Re: kde i18n packages...

No worries man I'll just compile the needed ones myself it's only 2 of them anyways. Just have a couple friends at college who aren't from the US and figure there are probably some minor updates to the i18n files they use. So I'll repackage those 2 and send em to them. I don't know that there are any show stopping bugs or not just figure it's better to go ahead and update them for compat issues that could arise.

Re: kde i18n packages...

no compat issues here, i'm using the en_GB ones.... all good, that's why there's no real need to updates, unless it's really needed.

Re: kde i18n packages...

You might consider also building all the i18n files into one pkgbuild instead of seperate ones..Would make life easier run make pkg once walk away.

one PKGBUILD per definition makes only one pkg - that's the law

there exist a kde-i18 for all the language codes, but it is about 200MB and as most people want only some languages installed, we splited it and use for every lang a pkg - hope you like better having only some MB instead of about 200 :-)
