The DVD drive in my system is not being detected when I try to use K3b. It does not even show up even thought I use HAL. I even tried mounting it manually( mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /home/msid/FAT/ ), but it gives me errors like the following.
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or other error
(could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
The dmesg output is the following
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 64
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16
Can someone please explain to me what the problem is?

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /home/msid/FAT/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option
Maybe the file system is udf?

Umm...Never mind the filesystem type, shouldn't it automatically mount even if there is no disc in the drive? Or should I type a command to do it? K3b says there is no optical drive on my system even if there is no disc in it.

What about trying with other medium? This could be damaged.

I tried. No luck. Maybe I did something that screwed it up , cuz I remember it working about a week ago when I first installed Arch. I'll reinstall Arch again after a month(doing everything quick and dirty now) and hope it works then.
