just set up and ran ntop on my rtorrent server and got quite a shock. NTOP thinks I'm running "[Linux 2.4.22-gentoo-r5". not Arch even though I installed arch myself, have I been hacked ?:mad::rolleyes:

You should post in phrakture's topic .
Seriously, what do cat /proc/cpuinfo report on the box? And uname and stuff?

@b I wasn't quite serious about being hacked, just thought it was some humerous miss-reporting by ntop. Perhaps it sees all Leenux's as Gentoo. I'm sure Phrakture's forgotten all about it.. will never happen again...
I suppose it doesn't hurt to be careful though.
..
now I'm beginning to worry.

paranoia setting in.
not sure why, but here is cpuinfo, and uname, and now I'll need to start reading all the security threads, oh boy..
uname = Linux

Why exactly did you post the output of "uname" and "cat /proc/cpuinfo" ?

not a clue. @B asked what they output, sooo. I suppose uname showed "Linux" while rtop reports "gentoo", no idea where rtop is getting it's info from. I thought it mildley amusing at the time.

Well perhaps he didn't mean simple `uname` (which simply says you're running Linux.. *G* .. *great*) but rather the command with some arguments (i.e. "-a" or whatever). I have a question: how do you know ntop "thinks your system is running Linux 2.4.22-gentoo-r5" ? Could you paste some relevant lines / share a screenshot ?

uname -a indeed, but the cpuinfo thing was just instinct, although it doesn't have anything to do with your problem.
This is what uname -a reports over here:
[stijn@hermes ~]$ uname -a
Linux hermes 2.6.26-rc8-vaio #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jun 25 15:27:14 CEST 2008 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU U7600 @ 1.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
If you got Arch, you should have something like 2.6.25-ARCH as kernel.
And btw: does Gentoo still *support* 2.4.x ? I'd think not?
