Location of error messages on shutdown

Are the error (broadcast?) messages that are seen on shutdown stored somewhere? I'm getting messages about firefox and conky but they extend past the screen (I can't scroll up can I?) and I can't get what they are saying. I'm not using a login manager if that helps.
