Kde 4 apps in kde 3.5

Most distros now offer kde 3.5 with apps like ark, kate, kpdf, ktorreent replaced with apps from kde4. I am using kdemod and checked there site but you have to remove kde3 in order to use it. There are PKGBUILDS in AUR. How do I use these to replace my kde3 apps?

Re: Kde 4 apps in kde 3.5

You don't need to remove kdemod3 to get kdemod4 apps, kde3.5 is in /opt/kde and kde4 is in /opt/kdemod. I'm running both environments on my computer as two different users.

What site were you looking for instructions on? The instructions on the main site are for replacing Arch's KDE3.5 with KDEmod3.5. In the forums there's instructions for getting KDE4, which also just tell you to get rid of other KDE4 things not KDE3.5

3 - Remove installed qt / qtmod / kde4 / kdemod4 packages (this will be fun wink )

My mistake, I read the remove kdemod4 as kdemod3

Re: Kde 4 apps in kde 3.5

Is the kde4 on kdemod more stable than kde 4.0.5 in aur? I assumed that kde 4.0.5 was more stable and installed kdegraphics4 from aur and boy was I in for a suprise. All my customisation of kdemod3 dissappeared and everytime I login into kdemod3, kde4 will also start and I had good fun with two panels etc. I removed kde4. Should I risk the beta from kdemod site? Okular and ktorrent3 are the only apps I want.

Re: Kde 4 apps in kde 3.5

The kdemod packages have worked fairly well for me recently, though like I said  before I have a separate user for my KDE4 testing. But I've run okular and gwenview in kde3 without problems.

If you just want a couple programs kdemod might be the way to go. Though ktorrent isn't in the repositories yet, but you can find it here
