accessing my camera

I've got a camera which doesn't show as usb mass storage when plugged in, it uses the other style of communication (I can't remember the name).

When I plug it in dmesg notices that it is there

usb 1-1.2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6
usb 1-1.2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

and it shows up in lsusb. I used to then just run camorama which would connect and let me browse the photos but now when I try there is no /dev/video* created so camorama fails.

I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious like a kernel module but I can't find it and googling is showing up noting useful.

The camera is a Kodak easyshare v1003.

Re: accessing my camera

Can't say i have any experience with camera use, but I think there's a 'camera' group you should add you're user to.

flack 2.0.6: menu-driven BASH script to easily tag FLAC files (AUR)
knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

Re: accessing my camera

After
# gpasswd -a YOURUSER camera
try gthumb launched as root.
In the file menu select "import photos"

Re: accessing my camera

I'm already in the camera group so that doesn't help fix it.

gthumb running as root does pick up the camera and works fine.

The error gthumb gives when ran as a normal user is:

An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not claim the USB device'): Could not claim interface 0 (Operation not permitted). Make sure no other program or kernel module (such as sdc2xx, stv680, spca50x) is using the device and you have read/write access to the device.

From the gthumb error I've just found this so I'll give it a go http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=16947 .

And I've just checked, it wasn't camorama I was using before, it was digikam, got it mixed up.

Thanks
