I installed ms-fft-fonts to use battle.net. Then I realized that my Firefox fonts had changed too. I usually just use 'Sans' (which face that actually refers to remains a mystery to me). So I clicked on all the available fonts that Firefox offers but nothing changes. There is only this one font that appeared after I installed the MS fonts. How I can I stop them from taking over Firefox? I only want them to be used when some application explicitly requests them.

That's what you get for inviting Microsoft inside your system! ;-)
Try running fc-cache.

I thought that happened automatically after the install. Oh well, I did it manually but nothing changed. I think I'm just going to get rid of them again.
But does anyone know how to find out which font is used when you select 'Sans' or 'Serif' etc. in a font chooser (e.g. the Firefox one).

You can look in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/45-latin.conf. Fontconfig will start at the top of the list and use the first font it finds.

it is usually bitstream-vera if you have them installed of course. The system seems to "pretty" itself after these along with others are installed

Are you sure you changed "all" of the fonts? Edit > Preferences. Content Tab, and under Fonts and Colors hit Advanced. Make sure you messed with _all_ of these. If you've already done this, you can ignore this post successfully.

Thanks for the hint, that was quite useful. The Bitstream Vera fonts are number one for each familiy.
I tried all fonts in FF including the 'advanced' ones. Nothing happened. The same with Opera.
Can anyone confirm this behavior? Is it worth filing a bug?
